As you can see this week is part 3 of Practicing ALL WRONG. If you missed Part 1 & 2 just scroll down catchup and Part 3 will tie it all together.

I’ve never really practiced out of my hunting stand! Yeah, mind blown! When I stopped and thought about it I realized that I’ve never actually practiced shooting out of any of my stands. Box Blinds, ground blinds, ladder stands, lock-ons it didn’t matter. The only time I’ve ever shot an arrow out of any stands was in a hunting scenario, shooting at a live target.

Here’s what I’m changing. The easiest one to start with is the ground blind. I can set it up in the yard or edge of woods and incorporate the changes I discussed on Part 1 & 2 into shooting out of the ground blind. I’ll then put my lock-on in a tree on the edge of the yard and shoot from it. I can then take my Mo-FOAM and BoneCollector targets to the woods and shoot from box blinds and ladder stands. It’s early enough in the year that if you’re smart about it you’ll get some great practice with little to no impact on deer movement.

To have some real fun and laughs grab a few hunting buddies for practice. Take turns setting up the shot. Alternate through setting up the whole shot or take turns picking different aspects of the shot. Really mix it up. Maybe sitting, 51yds between the trees or kneeling, 35yds under the apple tree. Make practice real and make it challenging. Doing so will make you a better shot and therefore a better hunter. If it’s challenging, it’s worth it!
